Very popular with customers from overseas! We are sharing Japanese fermentation culture with our "Miso and Rice Ball Making Experience"
Hello, this is Komedreaming.
We offer "Miso making experience" and "Onigiri making experience" for customers from overseas. Through these experiences, we aim to allow you to enjoy Japan's fermentation culture and traditional wisdom with all five senses.
What are the miso and rice ball making experiences?

This experience requires advance reservations and lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes, guided by an instructor.
What is the miso making experience?
The miso-making experience begins with preparing miso using rice koji, salt, and soybeans. Participants have praised the experience of touching the koji with their own hands, saying it is a fresh experience.
What is the rice ball making experience?
For the rice ball making experience, you will use rare Tokyo rice and Edo ingredients (the origins of the rice and ingredients may change depending on the season) to make your own rice balls.
We often hear from customers that the triangular shape that is so commonplace for Japanese people is quite difficult to hold the first time, so we hope to provide a memorable experience.
You can also compare different types of amazake
Both experiences will include a tasting of amazake, a fermented drink unique to Japan. The colorful amazake looks beautiful and allows you to enjoy the culture of fermentation at your own pace.
In this way, you can learn not only about the preparation process, but also about the background of the ingredients and the mechanism of fermentation, making it more than just a "cooking experience" - it is well-received as a deep learning experience.
We can accommodate groups of 1 to 6 people in our store, but we can also accommodate groups of over 100 people in other locations! Huge response from overseas customers
We receive around 5 to 10 reservations for this experience each month, with most of the participants coming from the United States, Mexico, and Europe .
Reservations can be made in store for 1 to 6 people.
If you have more than 6 people or would like to make a reservation for 100 people, we can accommodate you by changing the location, so please feel free to contact us.
Many of them say that they enjoy rice and miso soup on a daily basis in their own countries, which shows their high level of interest in rice, miso, and fermented foods.

Participant comments
We have received many positive comments after the experience.
-
"It was fun! I never thought I'd be able to make my own miso!"
-
"I learned a lot about Japanese food culture and its background."
-
"I became interested in the world of fermentation. I would like to participate again if I come to Japan again!"
I believe that by "experiencing" a culture, people can naturally sense feelings and history that cannot be conveyed in words.
Our thoughts
Why do we offer miso and rice ball making experiences?
This is because we want to make traditional Japanese culture more accessible and enjoyable for people overseas , and we also want people to experience the fascinating and profound aspects of fermentation, a uniquely Japanese form of wisdom .
Miso-making experiences are expanding in various ways, not just in stores
Our miso-making experience is not limited to being held in-store.
Recently, we even had the opportunity to have a GAFA company introduce this experience as part of an internal event. It was very impressive to see team members having fun interacting with each other while experiencing Japanese culture in the office.
Through collaborations with these companies, we have come to realize that the miso-making experience can also be an opportunity for team building and intercultural understanding.
Furthermore, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where families take the course as part of their children's nutrition education, and where we are asked to hold courses for children as part of their work experience.
Sometimes multiple families come to experience the experience together, and we are always encouraged by the sight of the children's eyes shining as they say, "So this is how miso is made!"
I hope that through the small fermentation experience of making miso, you can experience the depth of Japanese wisdom and culture.
Komedreaming will continue to provide a place where "delicious" and "fun" can be shared across countries and generations.
